A Letter From Our Maker

Hi - I’m Gicell, creator and Chief Candle Maker of LaSoph. I’ve always had a love for candles, but little did I know that, of all things, a candle gifted by a friend would bring me peace and calmness during one of the hardest times of my life, after we lost Sophie.

In 2022, our English Bulldog, Sophie, was diagnosed with cancer. She had shown some pain in her belly in the late spring causing us to have her get an ultrasound. Between that and a biopsy, they realized that she had cancer. Only a few months later, shortly after her sixth birthday in January 2023, we lost her in what became one of the most traumatic days of my life. Through therapy, I realized that I was scared to let her go out of fear of forgetting her. I wanted her to live on forever. It took a few weeks before my husband and I told our friends that we had lost our dog, who we saw as our daughter. Her absence was deafening in our home. We prayed every night that she was sunbathing in doggie heaven and playing in the most beautiful pool.

Then one day, we got a gift from a friend: a candle and a message about grieving the passing of our dog. The sweetest and most thoughtful gift. I remember thinking how Sophie would have loved the scent of the candle. I used to open all delivered packages on the floor with her, and I would let her use her nose to inspect every part of it. Every night, we lit that candle to remember Sophie and say a little prayer. I had no idea how my sense of smell could impact me so positively during such a time of grief. It brought me calmness and comfort, but most of all, peace. That’s when I realized the true power of scent, and how I wish I could be in a spa to experience relaxation and a sense of peace every day.

Geared with that realization, my love for aesthetics, and how we always have good-smelling fresh flowers to honor Sophie in our home, I created LaSoph. Something that, like her spirit, could live on forever.

After a busy day of work, caregiving, stress, and/or grieving, we need calmness, peace and a spa to decompress. Although we might not be able to go to a spa every day, we hope our customers will experience what they would in a spa: calmness, serenity and comfort with our candles. Bringing serenity into their home.
